A special little someone you know is about to turn 1. What an exciting time! You can see how busy they are working very hard to hit a lot of a baby’s first-year milestones. It is so fun watching them becoming their own little person.
This is such an important day for the family that it is easy to go overboard with the planning and activities. Preparing for a first birthday party can be tricky, especially in the world we live in today. But as a mom and preschool teacher, I want to share some thoughts with you on the importance of keeping focus on making the royal guest of honor happy.
Whatever you decide, try and keep it as stress-free as possible for yourself. I know this is easier said than done. Remember, though, that your little one will attach themselves to whatever vibe you are expressing. So, a stress-free momma or daddah will equal a calm and relaxed birthday prince/princess.
To keep the stress down, it helps to start making a list of what you’ll need. Personally, I love the brainstorming part. It gets me excited about the special day.
So, let’s start with the birthday theme. Once you have decided on the type of party you’re going to have, think about the time of day you want the celebration to begin. Keep in mind if your little one always naps at 11:00 in the morning, then maybe a late afternoon party would be best.
Another item on the to-do list is what gift should my little one receive? This is a milestone birthday. In addition to a new toy that will engage them in their newly developing skills, a keepsake gift is the perfect way to honor this momentous occasion. Fairytale Baby Books are one of the most unique baby gifts on the market. What better way to celebrate your little one than by sharing how excited you were the day they came into your life?
Did someone say, “It’s time for cake!”? Most parents have been very diligent about keeping their pride and joy away from sweets. For many families that all goes out the window on this milestone day. They not only let their little ones have a taste of the forbidden treat, but they get them their very own personalized smash cake! Although everyone will be snapping pictures, be sure to designate one particular guest to get that perfect 1st birthday smash cake face!!!!
Even with a small gathering, your 1-year-old will likely feel overwhelmed by the excitement in the air. There’s a good chance they will just want you. Since babies love one-on-one play at this age, try making a fun, decorative, comfy spot for the little star of the day, where he/she can sit and hold court. You can give each of the royal guests their own activity like bubbles, baby songs or balloons for sharing and playing with the royal heir.
Let’s face it. Does your little one really understand how special this day is? Of course not! That will come in their adult future when they have one of their own. In the meantime, it is your most important day since that sweet newborn baby came into the world. Have fun and make it special for everyone.
